This is a 6x6 in #2 & Better fir, sold green and surfaced smooth on all four sides (S4S). It measures about 5-5/8 in. square, shrinking toward 5-1/2 in. as it dries, and comes in 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 20 ft lengths.
#2 & Better is the general framing grade. It is sound for structural and non-structural work, and it is the grade most framing plans call for. Span, load and local code decide the size you need, so confirm it with your building inspector or engineer. This stock is sold green, so it shrinks as it dries and can twist or check. #2 & Better fir is not an appearance grade.
