The HB5.50/9.5 is a 10-gauge heavy beam hanger for a 5-1/2 in. x 9-1/2 in. beam. The 3 in. top flange bears on the header and the tall joist flanges carry high loads from PSL, glulam and multi-ply LVL beams.

How to Install
- Hook the top flange over the header so it bears fully.
- Fill the top and face holes with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails (22 total).
- Fill the 10 joist holes with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails.
- On steel, a 2 in. fillet weld each side of each top flange replaces the top and face nailing.

Which nails do I need?
Header: (22) 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. (top and face). Joist: (10) 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. Use the exact sizes Simpson specifies; a shorter or thinner nail lowers the allowable load. Simpson's catalogue table lists the load for each nailing option.
Can I use it on a pressure-treated deck?
Not this finish. G90 galvanizing is for dry, interior framing. For preservative-treated lumber or exterior exposure, Simpson calls for ZMAX, hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel connectors and matching fasteners. Ask us about the ZMAX or stainless version.
