The HGUS28-2 is a 12-gauge heavy girder hanger for a double 2x8. It uses double-shear nailing, with joist nails driven through the joist into the header, for the high loads of girders and doubled members.

How to Install
- Set the hanger on the header face and fill every header hole with 16d common nails.
- Seat the doubled member tight to the header.
- Drive the joist nails at an angle through the joist into the header to reach the table loads.

Which nails do I need?
Header: 16d common (0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in.). Joist: 16d common (0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in.), double-shear. Use the exact sizes Simpson specifies; a shorter or thinner nail lowers the allowable load. Simpson's catalogue table lists the load for each nailing option.
Can I use it on I-joists?
No. Simpson does not permit double-shear hangers with I-joists.
Can I use it on a pressure-treated deck?
Not this finish. G90 galvanizing is for dry, interior framing. For preservative-treated lumber or exterior exposure, Simpson calls for ZMAX, hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel connectors and matching fasteners. Ask us about the ZMAX or stainless version.
