HU414 Heavy Face-Mount Joist Hanger, 4x14
The HU414 is Simpson Strong-Tie's heavy face-mount hanger sized for a 4x14 carried member. The hanger nails to the face of the header, so it can go in after the header is set, and the 14-gauge seat carries more load than a light U-hanger of the same size.
This listing is the standard G90 galvanized finish, for dry, interior framing. Sloped, skewed and ZMAX versions are special order from Simpson; contact us for a quote.

How to Install
- Confirm the hanger matches the carried member and that the header is deep enough to take every header nail in the table.
- Hold the hanger tight to the header face with the seat at the joist bottom and nail it off through the round header holes.
- Drop the joist in with no more than a 1/8 in. gap at the header and nail through the joist flanges.
- Where the design calls for Simpson's maximum values, fill the triangle holes in the header and joist as well.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which nails do I need?
Header: 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. Joist: 0.148 in. x 3 in. Use the exact sizes Simpson specifies; a shorter or thinner nail lowers the allowable load. Simpson's catalogue table lists the load for each nailing option.
Round holes only, or triangle holes too?
Round holes give the standard table loads. Filling the triangle holes as well gives Simpson's higher maximum values, so fill them whenever the load calls for it.
Can I use it on a pressure-treated deck?
Not this finish. G90 galvanizing is for dry, interior framing. For preservative-treated lumber or exterior exposure, Simpson calls for ZMAX, hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel connectors and matching fasteners. Ask us about the ZMAX or stainless version.
