King Chain 1/16 in. x 50 ft. Galvanized Aircraft Cable
Fifty feet of 1/16 in. galvanized steel cable made to US Federal Specification RR-W-410D. The 7x7 construction is seven wires spiralled around a centre wire to form a strand, and seven of those strands laid up into the cable, which is what gives it flexibility and abrasion resistance at this diameter.
This is the lightest cable in the range and the one for hanging a sign, running a dog line or guying a small pole. KingChain states plainly that these cables are not intended for aircraft use, whatever the name says. Never exceed the safe working load, and never use it for overhead lifting.
- 95 lb. safe working load
- Two 1/16 in. aluminum sleeves included, so the first eye can be formed straight away
- 50 ft. coil of hot-dipped galvanized steel
- 7x7 construction
- Made to US Federal Specification RR-W-410D
- Typical uses are garage door cables, winch lines, tie-downs, dog runs, hanging signs and guy wires for flagpoles

Questions
How do I finish the ends?
Slide a sleeve on, pass the end back through to form the eye, and crimp with a swaging tool. A hammer does not make a sound crimp. Two sleeves come in the pack and more are sold separately in tens.
Is it really aircraft cable?
It is the construction aircraft cable uses and it is made to the same federal specification, but KingChain says it is not intended for aircraft use.
Which sleeve size do I need?
The same size as the cable. A 1/16 in. cable takes a 1/16 in. sleeve.
Will it rust?
Hot-dipped galvanizing slows it a long way. A cut end is bare steel, so seal or sleeve cut ends where the cable lives outdoors.
What can I actually hang on it?
Ninety-five pounds is the safe working load KingChain publishes for this diameter. That is the figure to work to, and it is not for overhead lifting.
