King Chain Grade 43 Clevis Grab Hook

Narrow throat that grips a single link of chain rather than sliding along it. That is what lets you shorten a chain to length and have it stay there under load.

Match the hook size to the chain size exactly. A grab hook on the wrong chain either will not seat or will point-load the link. These are not rated for overhead lifting.

  • Matched to Grade 43 chain from 2,600 lb. at 1/4 in. up to 5,400 lb. at 3/8 in.
  • Three sizes: 1/4, 5/16 and 3/8 in.
  • Narrow throat grips a single link instead of sliding along the chain
  • Clevis and pin attachment, so no connecting link is needed
  • Grade 43

Questions

What is a grab hook for?
Shortening chain. The narrow throat catches one link and holds it, so you can take up slack without a chain binder or a shorter chain.

How is it different from a slip hook?
A slip hook has a wide throat and lets the chain run through, so the load pulls the chain tight. A grab hook holds a single link and does not slide.

What size do I need?
The same size as the chain. A 5/16 in. grab hook goes on 5/16 in. chain.

Does the hook reduce the chain rating?
A grab hook loading a single link can reduce the chain's capacity, and the assembly is always rated at its weakest part. Size the assembly conservatively.

Can I lift with it?
No. Grade 43 hardware is not for overhead lifting.
