Makita 4350FCT Top Handle Jig Saw with Tool-less Blade Change

Tool-less blade change on this top handle jig saw, no wrench needed and doable with one hand. 800 to 2,800 strokes a minute on a dial, electronic speed control to hold that speed as the blade loads, and a soft start so it does not jump off the line.

Three orbital settings plus straight cutting is the range between a fast rough cut in softwood and a clean, slow cut in laminate or steel. It takes 5-5/16 in. in wood and 3/8 in. in steel.

  • (2) T-shank HCS jig saw blade, 4-1/8 in. x 9 TPI (792729-9-1)
  • (2) T-shank HSS jig saw blade, 3 in. x 24 TPI (792473-8-1)

  • Anti-splintering device (415524-7)
  • Hex wrench 4 (783202-0)
  • Plastic carrying case (824809-4)

The anti-splintering device is a small insert that closes the gap around the blade in the base. On veneered or melamine-faced sheet it is the difference between a clean edge and a torn one, and it is easy to leave in the case and forget about.

Questions

What is orbital action for?
It swings the blade forward on the up stroke so it bites rather than scrapes. More orbit means a faster, rougher cut; straight cutting means the slowest and cleanest. Use straight for laminate, metal and finished faces.

Does it take T-shank or U-shank blades?
T-shank, the tang type. That is the common fitting, so blades from Makita, Bosch and most other makers will drop into the tool-less clamp. U-shank blades will not fit.

Why a top handle rather than a barrel grip?
A top handle puts the trigger under your finger and your hand above the blade, which most people find steadier for freehand cutting on a bench. Barrel grip suits working close to the material.
