About the 18V LXT platform
These run on Makita's 18V LXT battery, which is the same pack across the range, so a battery bought with one tool runs any of the others. Tools marked "tool only" are sold without a battery or charger on purpose: if you are already on the platform, paying for a fourth charger is money for nothing.
Battery capacity changes run time, not power. A 4.0 Ah pack lasts roughly twice as long as a 2.0 Ah between charges and delivers the same torque and speed while it does.

Questions
Impact driver or drill driver?
An impact driver hammers rotationally as well as turning, so it drives long screws and lags without stalling or twisting your wrist. It is not for drilling precise holes and it has no clutch, so it is easy to overdrive a small screw.
Does it come with a battery?
No. Tool only. It takes any 18V LXT pack.
What bits does it take?
1/4 in. hex shank, the standard impact-rated bit fitting. Use impact-rated bits; ordinary driver bits shatter in one.
