Starter/End Clips for Grooved Decking

A grooved deck board has nothing for a hidden clip to grip on its outer edge, so the first and last boards need their own fastener. CAMO Starter/End Clips seat on the joist and hold that edge board tight, keeping the whole field free of visible screws.

304 stainless clip and screw, black zinc coated. One bag covers about 30 linear ft. at 16 in. on-centre framing.

Specifications
  • 304 stainless steel clip and screw, black zinc over 304 stainless meets the ASTM B117 salt spray standard
  • Screws passivated to ASTM A380
  • Head diameter 0.320 in., overall length 1-3/16 in., grip length 1 to 1-1/8 in., width 1 in.
  • Deck board groove needed: 1/8 in. tall x 1/4 in. deep minimum
  • 25 clips and 25 screws per bag, 6 bags per case
  • Covers about 30 linear ft. at 16 in. on-centre framing
Features and Common Uses

Works with leading grooved deck boards, including Trex, TimberTech by AZEK, Fiberon and Deckorators.

  • Doubles as an L-bracket for fastening end boards or working from underneath the deck
How to install

Place the clip on the outside of the joist, centred on the cross-joist, and drive the screw with a drill, not an impact driver, which can overdrive the small stainless screw. Keep the clip parallel to the joist, then tilt the first board and push it into the seated clips to lock it in place.

Questions

How many bags do I need?
One bag covers about 30 linear ft. of starting or ending edge at 16 in. joist spacing. Measure the perimeter run and divide by 30.

Can these go on the sides of the deck too?
Yes. Starter/End Clips also work as an L-bracket for securing end boards or fastening from underneath the deck.

Drill or impact driver?
Drill only. An impact driver can strip or overdrive the small stainless screw.
