Onward 4 in. Hinge Hasp

The plain hasp pattern: a hinged plate with a slot that drops over a staple, and a padlock through the staple holds it shut. It is the simple, cheap way to lock a shed, gate or chest.

On a plain hinge hasp the mounting screws sit exposed when the hasp is closed. If the fastening has to resist attack rather than just hold the door shut, use a security hasp instead, where the screws are covered in the locked position.

  • Screws are not covered when locked
  • Zinc finish, which suits indoor and sheltered outdoor use
  • Shed and outbuilding doors, gates, chests and toolboxes, cupboards and storage where a padlock is wanted
  • Takes a padlock through the staple
  • Model 319XV
How to install
  • Fit the hasp to the door and the staple to the frame, so the hasp swings clear when open.
  • Position it so the hasp sits flat and square over the staple with no strain. A hasp that has to be forced over the staple will bend at the hinge.
  • Use every screw hole, and use screws long enough to reach solid timber rather than just the cladding.
  • On anything security-critical, bolt through rather than screwing into the face.
Questions

Are the screws hidden when locked?
No. On a plain hinge hasp the screws stay visible. A security hasp covers them in the locked position.

Does it come with a padlock?
No. Order the padlock separately and match the shackle to the staple opening.

Will zinc last outdoors?
It handles sheltered outdoor use. For continuous wet exposure choose galvanized.

What size padlock fits?
Any padlock whose shackle passes through the staple. Check the shackle diameter against the staple before ordering.
