Onward 6 in. Galvanized Steel Hasp

Galvanized steel construction in the 6 in. size, built to spread the fixing load over more timber and take a heavier padlock than the 4 in. version. That is why it is the one used on shed and gate doors rather than cupboards.

The screws sit exposed when the hasp is closed. Where the fixing has to resist attack, use a security hasp.

  • Galvanized rather than zinc plated: plating is a thin coating that wears through at the hinge knuckle, galvanizing is thicker and survives continuous outdoor exposure
  • Screws are not covered when locked
  • Takes a heavier padlock than the 4 in. size
  • Shed, garage and outbuilding doors, yard and field gates, large chests and storage boxes
  • Steel
  • Model 318GAV
How to install
  • Fit the hasp to the door and the staple to the frame so the hasp swings clear when open.
  • Use screws long enough to reach framing timber, not just the cladding board.
  • Where security matters, bolt through the door with carriage bolts rather than screwing into the face.
  • Keep the staple clear of the door edge so the padlock has room to hang without fouling the frame.
Questions

Why galvanized rather than zinc plated?
Galvanizing is a thicker coating and lasts far longer outdoors. Zinc plating wears through at the knuckle and rusts from there.

Does it come with a padlock?
No, order it separately.

Are the screws hidden when locked?
No. Use a security hasp if that matters.

Is 6 in. better than 4 in.?
It spreads the load over more timber and takes a bigger padlock. On a shed or gate, yes.
