Simpson Strong-Tie HUC Heavy Concealed-Flange Face-Mount Joist Hangers
The HUC is Simpson Strong-Tie's heavy-duty face-mount hanger for joist and beam connections that need extra strength and safety factors. The header flanges are concealed, so the hanger leaves cleaner lines where framing stays exposed. It is made from 14 ga. steel with a G90 zinc galvanized finish, and the triangle holes can be filled for additional load.
Pick the model by the width and depth of the carried member, using the size table below: HUC for dimensional lumber and multi-ply headers, PSL beam sizes from 3-1/2 in. to 5-1/2 in. wide, and the HUC66 for 6x6 timber.
Standard sizes only. Sloped and skewed hangers (seat slope up to 45 degrees) are special order from Simpson, and ZMAX coated and stainless steel versions of some models exist. Contact us to request a quote.

All models are 14 ga., G90 galvanized, sold one per package. W, H and B are as listed in Simpson's HUC product table; the HUC5319 is not on Simpson's current table, so check its dimensions with us before ordering. Allowable loads depend on the carried and carrying members, species, fasteners and the holes filled, so check Simpson's published load tables for your model and jurisdiction. How to Install
- Select the hanger for your member size and use the fasteners Simpson specifies for that model in its load tables.
- Fill all round holes to reach table loads. Fill the triangle holes as well for maximum values. Use all specified fasteners.
- For a boxed joist, fill all round holes on both legs of the hanger.
- To attach to steel, fill all round holes on both flanges, or weld with 1 in. segments spaced equally top and bottom, half on each side of the hanger.
- Table loads apply to joists sloped up to 1/4:12. Nailing into the end grain of a solid sawn carrying member reduces the allowable load by a factor of 0.67.
Full installation notes and load tables are in Simpson's Wood Construction Connectors catalog, pp. 110-111 and the load table pages it references. Source: Simpson Strong-Tie Wood Construction Connectors catalog, pp. 110-111 (PDF).
Frequently Asked Questions
Which HUC fits a 6x6?
The HUC66 is made for 6x6 timber. It is 5-1/2 in. wide and 4-3/16 in. high.
Do I fill the triangle holes?
Fill all round holes to reach table loads. Filling the triangle holes as well gives the maximum values.
Can I get a skewed or sloped HUC?
Yes. Some models can be special ordered from Simpson with a skewable seat or a seat that slopes up to 45 degrees. Contact us for a quote.
Is the HUC code compliant?
Yes. The HUC series is listed in ICC-ES ESR-2552 and is tested and load rated.
Can I get ZMAX or stainless steel?
Simpson makes ZMAX coated and stainless steel versions of some HUC models. These sizes are galvanized; contact us to request another finish.
