KingCord 1/4 in. x 100 ft. Twisted Nylon Rope

Three-strand twisted nylon in 1/4 in., on a 100 ft. length. Twisted rope is the traditional lay: it splices by hand, it grips well, and it is easy to inspect because you can see right into the strands.

Safe working load is 130 lb. against a breaking strength of 991 lb. It is not rated for overhead lifting, a knot can cost a rope up to a third of its strength, and shock loading takes it past the rated figure without warning.

How much can it hold?
130 lb. safe working load. The 991 lb. figure is where it breaks in a straight steady pull, not a load you should design to.

Why does the working load look low against the breaking strength?
The gap is the safety margin, and it covers knots, shock, abrasion and age. Rope loses strength in all four ways.

Does it float?
No. Nylon sinks and takes up water.

Can I splice it?
Yes. Three-strand twisted rope is the easiest construction to splice by hand, and a splice keeps far more of the rope's strength than a knot does.

Nylon or polyester?
Nylon stretches and absorbs shock. Polyester barely stretches and handles sun better. Pick nylon for anchors and towing, polyester for anything tensioned and left out.
