Hilti HDM 500 Manual Anchor Adhesive Dispenser

The Hilti HDM 500 is a manual, ratcheting dispenser for injecting Hilti HIT adhesive anchor mortar, sold here as the HDM500BR kit with both cartridge holders: the black HIT-CB and red HIT-CR 500. The two holders exist because Hilti's HIT adhesives ship in different foil pack chemistries, and each holder is keyed to its own family.

This tool dispenses the adhesive - it does not, by itself, set the anchor's rated capacity. Hole diameter, embedment depth, cleaning method and cure time all come from the ICC-ES evaluation report for whichever Hilti HIT adhesive is loaded into it, not from the dispenser itself.

Features and Common Uses
  • Manual ratcheting dispenser for Hilti HIT two-component adhesive mortar
  • Sold with both the black HIT-CB and red HIT-CR 500 foil pack holders
  • Accepts Hilti foil packs in 330 ml (11.1 fl. oz.) and 500 ml (16.9 fl. oz.) sizes
  • No battery or compressed air required - hand-actuated for jobsite or shop use

Commonly used for:

  • Setting adhesive anchors and rebar dowels in concrete and masonry
  • Installing threaded rod, sleeve and mesh anchor systems with Hilti HIT adhesives
  • Jobs too small or remote to justify a battery-powered dispenser

The cartridge holders and foil pack sizes here come from Hilti's own HDM 330/500 operating instructions, which name the HDM 500, HIT-CB and HIT-CR 500 by part number. It does not publish a dispenser weight or dimensions; the anchor design values, cure schedule and hole preparation steps live in the ICC-ES evaluation report for the specific HIT adhesive used, not in this manual. How to Install
  1. Load the black HIT-CB holder or red HIT-CR 500 holder to match the specific Hilti HIT foil pack you're using - the two are not interchangeable between adhesive families.
  2. Drill the hole to the diameter and depth the adhesive's own ICC-ES report specifies for your anchor, then clean it per that report's hole-cleaning steps - dust left in the hole is the leading cause of a weak bond.
  3. Insert the foil pack into the correct cartridge holder and thread on a new static mixing nozzle for every pack; a reused mixer can dispense unmixed resin.
  4. Dispense and discard a short bead until the two components come out evenly mixed and uniform in color before injecting into a hole.
  5. Insert the mixer to the back of the hole and withdraw it gradually as you inject, filling from the bottom up to avoid trapping air.
  6. Insert the anchor with a slight twisting motion and hold or brace it undisturbed for the full cure time listed in the adhesive's data sheet - cure time varies with base material temperature.

This sequence is general adhesive-anchor practice for a Hilti HIT manual dispenser; the actual hole diameter, embedment depth, cleaning method and cure schedule are set by the ICC-ES evaluation report for the specific HIT adhesive used, not by this tool. Frequently Asked Questions
Does this tool tell me how deep to drill or how long to cure?

No. Hole depth, cleaning method and cure time come from the ICC-ES evaluation report for the specific Hilti HIT adhesive you load - the dispenser only injects it.

What's the difference between the black and red holders?

They're keyed to different Hilti HIT adhesive families and foil pack chemistries. Use the holder Hilti specifies for the adhesive you're buying, not whichever is already loaded.

Do I need a battery or compressor to run this?

No - the HDM 500 is fully manual, hand-ratcheted. Hilti also sells battery and pneumatic dispensers for higher-volume work.

What cartridge sizes does it take?

330 ml and 500 ml Hilti HIT foil packs, matched to the correct holder color.
