KingCord 5/32 in. x 50 ft. 550 Paracord

550 paracord in 5/32 in. nylon, 50 ft. per hank, in four colours including a reflective option. The 550 in the name is the tensile strength in pounds.

That 550 lb. is the breaking figure, not a working load. Do not hang anything you care about, or anyone, from it.

  • 550 lb. tensile strength
  • Woven nylon sheath over several loose inner yarns
  • Those inner yarns pull out, which is why paracord ends up doing jobs no other cord does: fishing line, sewing thread, snare wire, boot laces
  • Nylon stretches, so paracord absorbs shock rather than snapping tight
  • Camouflage, black, pink and black reflective
  • 50 ft. per hank
Questions

What does 550 mean?
It is the tensile strength in pounds, meaning where a new cord breaks in a straight steady pull. It is not a safe working load, and it does not account for knots, wear or shock.

Can I use it to hold body weight?
No. Paracord is not life-safety rope and must never be used where a fall is possible.

What are the inner strands for?
They pull out and can be used as thread, fishing line or light lashing. That is a large part of why paracord is carried.

How do I stop the ends fraying?
Heat-seal them with a flame and roll to a point while soft.

What is the reflective version?
The black reflective colour has a reflective tracer woven into the sheath so it shows up under a headlamp.
