Onward 3 in. Zinc Corner Brace

Reinforces a right-angle joint in timber with an L-shaped plate that sits across the face of the joint and stops it opening up, the failure every butted or screwed corner eventually has.

Braces work in pairs and in the plane of the load. One brace on one face of a joint does less than most people expect, since the joint can still twist.

  • L-shaped plate that stops a right-angle joint opening up
  • Zinc plating suits indoor and sheltered use
  • Fit them in pairs, and on two faces where the joint can twist as well as open
  • 3 in.
  • Model 0310818
How to install
  • Fit the brace across the joint with equal leg length on each member.
  • Use every screw hole, and use screws that reach well into both pieces without breaking through.
  • Where the joint can twist as well as open, fit braces on two faces rather than one.
  • Pilot the screw holes in hardwood so the brace does not split the timber it is meant to be holding.
Questions

How many do I need?
At least one per corner, and two per corner on anything that can twist. Braces on one face only leave the joint free to rack.

Indoor or outdoor?
Zinc plating is for indoor and sheltered use. Choose galvanized for continuous outdoor exposure.

Are screws included?
Check the pack, and use screws sized to reach solidly into both members.

Corner brace or mending plate?
A corner brace is bent to 90 degrees and holds a right angle. A flat mending plate joins two pieces in the same plane.
