• Deck boards on an above-grade frame

1. Install only where the board stays clear of soil contact and standing water. This UC3.2 board is not rated for ground contact; use a UC4 ground-contact board for posts, sleepers or anything touching soil.
2. Use fasteners galvanized per ASTM A153, or Type 304/316 stainless steel for maximum service life. Use connectors galvanized per ASTM A653 (G185) or hot-dip galvanized after fabrication per ASTM A123.
3. Never pair stainless steel fasteners with galvanized connectors, or vice versa. Mixing metals in a damp, copper-treated board drives galvanic corrosion.
4. Pre-drill pilot holes when fastening within about 2 in. of a board end to reduce splitting.
5. Cutting or drilling exposes untreated wood at the core of the board. Apply a field-treatment or end-cut preservative product to every field cut and drilled hole to maintain the board's decay resistance.
