2" x 10" Hiline #1 Premium Grade SPF KDHT S4S Dimensional Lumber

This is a 2x10 in Hiline #1 Premium Grade SPF (spruce-pine-fir), kiln dried and heat treated (KDHT) and surfaced smooth on all four sides (S4S). It measures 1-1/2 in. x 9-1/4 in. actual and comes in a 8 ft length.

#1 premium grade means fewer and smaller defects than #2. That makes it a good pick for long joists, rafters, ledgers and visible framing where straighter, cleaner boards matter. Span, load and local code still decide where it can be used, so confirm with your building inspector or engineer for structural work.

Features and Common Uses
  • Hiline #1 premium grade, with fewer and smaller knots and defects than #2
  • SPF is a species group of spruce, pine and fir, light in weight and easy to cut and nail.
  • Kiln dried to 19% moisture content or less, so it arrives drier and more stable than green lumber
  • Heat treated (KD-HT) to a core temperature of at least 56 C for a minimum of 30 minutes
  • Surfaced smooth on all four sides (S4S) for a consistent 1-1/2 in. x 9-1/4 in. actual size
  • Not pressure treated, so it is for dry, above-ground use

Commonly used for:

  • Floor joists, rafters and ledgers
  • Long headers and plates
  • Visible framing and exposed beams
  • Decks and outbuildings where straight stock matters

Frequently Asked Questions
What does #1 premium grade mean?

#1 is a visual framing grade with fewer and smaller knots, splits and other defects than #2. Premium means the boards are selected for a cleaner, straighter look, which reduces culling and waste on the job site.

What is SPF?

SPF is a commercial species group of spruce, pine and fir. The wood is light and easy to work, and it is graded and sold together as one group.

What does KDHT mean?

KDHT means kiln dried and heat treated. The board is dried to 19% moisture content or less and heated to a core temperature of at least 56 C for a minimum of 30 minutes. It is a heat process, not a chemical preservative treatment.

What is the actual size of a 2x10?

A 2x10 measures 1-1/2 in. x 9-1/4 in. once surfaced. The 2 in. x 10 in. name is the nominal size from before the board was dried and planed.

Can I use it outside?

Only where it stays dry and above ground, or for short-term use. It is not pressure treated, so it will rot in ground contact or constant wet. Choose pressure treated lumber for buried posts and outdoor structures.
