Simpson Strong-Tie HGUS 3-1/2" Face-Mount Beam Hangers
The HGUS is Simpson Strong-Tie's extra-heavy-capacity, face-mount hanger for girder and beam support, including Parallam PSL, LVL and sawn beams. Double-shear nailing distributes each joist nail's load through two points for greater strength than a standard single-shear hanger.
It's 12-gauge galvanized steel and can be installed after the beam is already secured in place, since it nails to the face rather than seating over the top.
Nails must be driven at an angle through the joist into the beam to reach the published load values below. Straight nailing will not achieve the rated capacity.
Features and Common Uses
- Double-shear nailing spreads each joist nail's load across two points for greater strength
- Can be installed after the beam is secured in place
- 12-gauge galvanized steel, tested and code-compliant
- Rated for Parallam PSL, LVL and sawn-lumber beams of the same dimensions
Commonly used for:
- Girder and beam-to-post or beam-to-ledger connections carrying high loads
- Parallam PSL beam framing
- Engineered-lumber floor and roof framing where a standard joist hanger isn't rated high enough

How to Install
- Position the hanger against the face of the beam at the joist layout mark, seated square.
- Nail the beam side first, driving the full nail count specified for the model (46/56/66 x 16d).
- Set the joist or PSL beam into the seat and nail the joist side (16/20/22 x 16d), driving each nail at an angle through the joist into the beam. This is required to reach the published load values.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which size do I need for my Parallam beam?
HGUS410 fits 3-1/2 x 9-1/4 and 3-1/2 x 9-1/2 in. beams, HGUS412 fits 3-1/2 x 11-1/4 and 3-1/2 x 11-7/8 in. beams, and HGUS414 fits 3-1/2 x 14 and 3-1/2 x 16 in. beams.
Does it only work with Parallam PSL?
No. It's rated for the beam and joist sizes shown regardless of species. Parallam PSL, LVL and sawn lumber of the same dimensions all qualify.
Can I leave out some of the nails?
No. The published capacities assume every specified nail is driven; leaving nails out reduces the load below what's rated.
Is it face-mount or top-flange?
Face-mount. It nails to the side of the beam rather than sitting on top of it, which is why it can go in after the beam is already set.
