James Hardie Artisan Fiber Cement Siding, 10.25 in. x 12 ft., Primed for Paint (Shiplap or Square Channel)

The 10.25 in. Artisan board is James Hardie's thick-profile fiber cement siding from the Artisan Architectural Collection, milled 5/8 in. thick with James Hardie's lock joint system for a fast, concealed-fastener install. It's available in two profiles: Shiplap, a flat reveal with a crisp horizontal line, and Square Channel, a deeper recessed groove for a more pronounced shadow line.

Both profiles run 9 in. of exposure per board, come primed and ready for field paint, and install vertically, horizontally, or as a soffit board. Boards ship 12 ft. long, 105 per lift.

Primed for Paint only. Neither profile is available in a factory ColorPlus finish. Contact us to request a ColorPlus quote if you'd like a factory-finished color option.

Features and Common Uses
  • Extra-thick 5/8 in. profile for a deeper shadow line than standard lap siding
  • Lock joint system conceals the fastener line of the course below for a cleaner reveal and a faster install
  • Two profiles on one board size: Shiplap for a flat, crisp reveal, or Square Channel for a deeper recessed groove
  • Installs vertically, horizontally, or as a soffit board
  • Noncombustible fiber cement resists moisture damage and holds no appeal for pests like woodpeckers or termites
  • Primed and ready for field paint in the color of your choice

Commonly used for:

  • Accent walls, gables and feature elevations where a deeper shadow line matters
  • Vertical board-and-batten style facades
  • Covered porch and eave soffits
  • Full elevations on new builds and re-sides

How to Install
  1. Maintain at least 6 in. of clearance from grade and follow James Hardie's flashing details at rooflines, decks and penetrations.
  2. Cut outdoors with a Hardie-approved blade and dust collection, or score and snap for straight runs.
  3. On 16 in. o.c. wood framing, face-nail with an 8d ring-shank siding nail (0.092 in. x 2-1/2 in.). On 24 in. o.c. framing, blind-nail with a 6d siding nail (0.092 in. x 2 in.) instead.
  4. Prime all field cuts and fastener heads, and caulk joints per the manufacturer's paint requirements before finish coating.

Electroplated galvanized fasteners are not approved for this product. Use hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel only. Full fastening schedule, including the steel-stud option: James Hardie Artisan Siding with Lock Joint Technical Data Sheet (PDF).

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Shiplap and Square Channel?

Shiplap has a flat, crisp reveal between boards. Square Channel is milled with a deeper recessed groove for a more pronounced shadow line. Both are the same 10.25 in. board, same price.

Can this be installed horizontally like regular lap siding?

Yes. Both profiles are rated for vertical, horizontal or soffit installation with the same lock joint system.

Does it come pre-finished?

No, it's primed for paint only on this supplier's price list. It needs a field-applied topcoat after install.

What nails do I need?

On 16 in. o.c. wood framing, an 8d ring-shank siding nail (0.092 in. x 2-1/2 in.), face-nailed. On 24 in. o.c., a 6d siding nail (0.092 in. x 2 in.), blind-nailed. Always corrosion-resistant, never electroplated.

How much wall does one board cover?

About 9 sq. ft. per 12 ft. board at the 9 in. exposure this profile is milled for.

How many boards come on a lift?

105 pieces per lift from this supplier, for either profile.
