The curved jaw grips a nut or bolt head at four points instead of two, which is what lets these turn a rounded fastener that a wrench has stopped biting on. There is a wire cutter in the throat behind the jaws.
This is the Original handle, the classic trigger release, not the Fast Release. The adjusting screw in the handle sets the jaw opening and holds that setting, so a repeated job stays set between grips.

Curved jaw or straight jaw?
Curved for nuts, bolt heads and round stock, because it grips at four points and takes more torque. Straight for flat, square and hex work where you want full face contact. The straight jaw version is the 7R.
Is this the Original or the Fast Release?
The Original, with the classic trigger release. The Fast Release version of the same tool is stock number 7T.
What is the wire cutter for?
Soft wire and small fasteners in the throat of the jaws. It is not a bolt cutter and it is not insulated, so keep it off live conductors.
The screw came out. Can I replace it?
Yes. The adjusting screw is 40-21 and the spring is 40-22, and both also fit the 7R, 7CR, 9LN and 8R.
