King Chain Zinc Wire Rope Clip
U-bolt wire rope clips form an eye in a cable without swaging equipment. Fitted correctly they develop about 80 percent of the cable's breaking strength, which is why the fitting table below matters more than the clip itself.
The rule that catches people out: the saddle of the clip bears on the live end of the rope and the U-bolt sits on the dead end. Put it on backwards and the U-bolt crushes the loaded side of the cable. Use at least two clips on every termination in these sizes, because one clip is not a termination.

Questions
Which way round does the clip go?
Saddle on the live end, U-bolt on the dead end. Every time. The saddle spreads the load; the U-bolt pinches, and you do not want it pinching the side carrying the load.
How many clips do I need?
At least two in these sizes, with the specified turnback. More clips means more turnback, proportionately.
How tight?
To the torque in the table, using a torque wrench, alternating between the two nuts. Then apply the first load and retighten. Cable seats and settles under load, and the nuts go slack.
Where does the first clip go?
One base width from the dead end. The second goes as close to the loop or thimble as it will sit.
Can I use them on plastic coated cable?
No. The clip cannot grip through the coating and the coating creeps under pressure.
Do I need a thimble?
For any permanent eye, yes. Without one the cable bends on itself at a tight radius and wears through at the very point carrying the load.
