Onward Zinc Wire Rope Clip
U-bolt wire rope clips form an eye in a cable without swaging equipment. Fitted properly they develop about 80 percent of the cable's breaking strength, which means the fitting table below matters more than the clip.
The rule people get wrong: the saddle bears on the live end of the rope and the U-bolt sits on the dead end. Backwards, the U-bolt crushes the side carrying the load. Use at least two clips on every termination.

How to install
- Turn the specified amount of rope back around the thimble or loop.
- Fit the first clip one base width from the dead end, saddle on the live end, and torque both nuts evenly.
- Fit the second clip as close to the thimble as it will sit, then torque it.
- Apply the first load, then check and retighten every nut. Cable seats under load and the nuts go slack.

Which way round does the clip go?
Saddle on the live end, U-bolt on the dead end. Every time.
How many clips?
At least two in these sizes, with the turnback in the table.
How tight?
To the torque in the table, with a torque wrench, alternating between nuts. Then retighten after the first load.
Can I use them on plastic coated cable?
No. The clip cannot grip through the coating and the coating creeps under pressure.
Do I need a thimble?
For a permanent eye, yes. Without one the cable bends hard on itself and wears through exactly where the load is.
