BA1.81/7.25 Top-Flange Beam Hanger, 1-3/4 in. x 7-1/4 in. LVL

The BA1.81/7.25 is Simpson's cost-effective 14-gauge top-flange hanger for a 1-3/4 in. x 7-1/4 in. LVL. The top flange bears on the header and a full-height joist flange captures the carried member so it cannot rotate.

Min. and max. nailing options: Simpson publishes two load levels depending on how many joist nails you fill. Size the nailing to the load.

Features and Common Uses
  • 14-gauge steel, Zinc galvanized, G90 finish
  • Full-height joist flange captures the member and prevents rotation, with no web stiffeners needed for I-joists
  • Positive-angle nailing at the seat
  • Acceptable for weld-on applications to steel
  • Sloped and skewed versions available by special order

Commonly used for:

  • LVL and PSL beams hung from a girder
  • High-capacity I-joists at stair openings
  • Header-to-beam connections in engineered floor systems

How to Install
  1. Hook the top flange over the header so it bears fully.
  2. Fill the top and face holes with 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. nails.
  3. Fill the joist holes: minimum nailing for moderate loads, maximum nailing for Simpson's higher values.
  4. On steel, a 2 in. fillet weld each side of each top flange replaces the top and face nailing.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which nails do I need?

Header: (16) 0.162 in. x 3-1/2 in. (top and face). Joist: (2) 0.148 in. x 1-1/2 in. min. / (8) max. Use the exact sizes Simpson specifies; a shorter or thinner nail lowers the allowable load. Simpson's catalogue table lists the load for each nailing option.

Min. or max. nailing?

Minimum nailing (2 joist nails) suits moderate loads. Filling all 8 joist holes gives the higher maximum values in Simpson's table.

Can I use it on a pressure-treated deck?

Not this finish. G90 galvanizing is for dry, interior framing. For preservative-treated lumber or exterior exposure, Simpson calls for ZMAX, hot-dip galvanized or stainless steel connectors and matching fasteners. Ask us about the ZMAX or stainless version.
