Standard Hardboard Panel, 4 ft x 8 ft

Standard Hardboard, also known as Fibrex, is a smooth, grain-free HDF panel with uniform thickness and density. It cuts, glues and fastens like a thin sheet good, and the face takes paint without grain or knots showing through.

Interior use only. Standard hardboard is not fire retardant and is not a structural or exterior sheathing panel. Choose 1/8 in. for backs and paneling, 1/4 in. where you need a stiffer sheet.

Features and Common Uses

  • Resists marring, scuffing, abrasion and changes in temperature and humidity
  • Glues, or fastens with screws, staples or nails
  • Cuts and paints cleanly for finished panels
  • Not fire retardant

Commonly used for:

  • Wall paneling and interior trim panels

Frequently Asked Questions
Which thickness should I choose?

Use 1/8 in. for cabinet and drawer backs, paneling and underlayment over a flat base. Use 1/4 in. when the panel spans an open area or needs more stiffness.

Can I use it outdoors?

No. Standard hardboard is an interior product. Use an exterior-rated sheet for anything exposed to weather.

How do I fasten it?

Glue it, or fasten with screws, staples or nails. Support the panel on a continuous or closely spaced backing, since a thin sheet flexes between fasteners.

Is it fire retardant?

No. Standard hardboard is not fire retardant.
