Grooved boards take a hidden fastener for a clean field; square edge boards face-screw for stairs and the deck perimeter.

Grooved or square edge - which do I need?
Grooved boards run the main deck field with a hidden fastener. Square edge is face-screwed and used for stairs and the outer perimeter, where a hidden clip has nothing to grip.
